Introduction to Word

6 hrs

Use this program to write a letter, or compose a novel!  Topics covered:  Properly formatted business letters and term papers, labels and envelopes, announcements, tables vs. columns, find and replace, opening and saving documents, file management, formatting techniques, headers, footers, and page numbers.

 

Mailing Lists and Word Mail Merge

3 hrs

Use mail merge to reach your customers or  for fund drives.  Send personalized letters to your mailing list.  First a review on using tables, then understand the principles of mail merge and how to create a good mailing list.  Finally we learn how to create form letters, labels, envelopes and catalogs.

 

MS Word, Power Tips

3 hrs

Learn better navigation by using keyboard shortcuts, master tables, customize your toolbars, create automation programs (macros) to perform repetitive tasks, finish work early because you know how to use auto text, templates, and auto format tables. 

 

Long Documents, Styles and Table of Contents

3 hrs

Work more efficiently by using styles and assure you have consistent formatting.  Once you know how to use styles then you are ready to  create of a Table of Contents.   Master and customize bullets and outline numbering.   

 

Introduction to Excel

6 hrs

Learn to use the power of spreadsheets.  In this class we cover how to make simple formulas including sum a column or row, and use arithmetic operators (add, subtract, multiply and divide).  We also cover how to format data, and use absolute reference to make our formulas more robust.  Functions covered are SUM, MIN, MAX, AVERAGE, COUNTA, and IF.

 

Excel Formulas and Functions

Beyond basic of Excel, in this class we will cover more advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, COUNTIF, SUMIF, SUBTOTAL, PMT, ROUND, MATCH, LOOKUP.  We will also go over order of precedence, correct formula make up, good spreadsheet architecture, and absolute reference.

 

Excel Power Tips

3 hrs

Learn how to sure Excel more efficiently, keyboard shortcuts, use of range names, elements of list management, auto filter and advanced filter, and pivot tables.

List Management

3 hrs

Excel can manage address lists or inventory lists, simply and effectively.  Learn how to take advantage of the features of Excel list management, including data sort, filter, subtotal, and form.  If time permits we will set up simple pivot tables.

 

Excel Macros

3 hrs

Excel provides for the automation of many routines tasks, including the importation of data from an external sources, printing, and formatting data.  Get a start on harnessing the power of programming for Excel.

 

PowerPoint

6 hrs

Use this easy-to-learn program to present your presentations effectively.  We will learn how to create slides that incorporate images, tables, and charts and present these in a cohesive, consistent production that is easily modified.

 

Quick PowerPoint

This class is for those that don't have all day to learn PowerPoint.  I will go over the highlights, and most important features for building an effective presentation.

 

Effective PowerPoint

Do you want people to remember your presentation; remember the information they are supposed to take with them?  Get beyond bullet points and make a presentation that assures transfer and retention of information.  Should know some PowerPoint.

 

Web Site Creation and Management

Learn the basics of web site creation and management.  We will use Kompozer to create a web site, to understand hyper text mark language (HTML), why you don’t need to know HTML and why it helps, use of FTP and other file transfer programs.  If you have a small web site or want one, this is the class for you. Basic understanding of file management (Windows) required.

 

Access Introduction

Part of MS Office Professional, Access is a database management program that allows you to manage and protect your data, whether it is a simple mailing list or a complex system that requires multiple tables linked together via relationships.  We will cover the highlights of tables, queries, reporting, forms, and the relationships required.

What is FileMaker Pro?  It is the only database management software that runs on both Windows and Macintosh.  It is easy to use, offers true relational capabilities, publishes easily to the web, and can share data transparently between Macs and PC’s.  Protect your data, run reports, collect data in this software clearly positioned for end user development, yet powerful enough for developers.
